Accepted types of tests can be found on this website.
  • Travellers who have recovered from COVID-19 and who are symptom-free can provide proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test when crossing the border, instead of a negative one. • For travellers with a connecting flight, the test must be conducted within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time of their last direct flight to Canada. The test may need to be performed in the transit city.

  • Airlines may refuse boarding to foreign travellers who are unable to provide a valid molecular test result. However, Canadian citizens, persons registered under the Indian Act, or permanent residents will be allowed to enter, subject to paying a fine or facing criminal prosecution.

  • Exemptions can be found at this website.

Test On Arrival

  • Fully vaccinated passengers are usually exempt from the test on arrival and the test on day 8 after arrival. However, fully vaccinated travellers may be selected for mandatory randomized arrival testing.

  • Selected vaccinated travellers and all unvaccinated travellers are instructed to either take an arrival test at the border, or receive a home test kit. Travellers who refuse to take the tests may be transferred to a designated quarantine facility.

  • All arriving unvaccinated passengers will be required to take another COVID-19 test on day eight (8) after arrival during the mandatory quarantine.

  • Travellers who receive a positive result on the arrival test must stay in their accommodation. A Public Health Agency of Canada official will contact the traveller with instructions. The traveller will be required to isolate for 14 days from the date of the test.

  • Children under the age of 5 and inbound travellers with a document of positive COVID-19 test result taken within 14 to 180 days prior to arrival into Canada may be exempt from arrival testing. The list of exemptions from the arrival test requirement can be found here.

Quarantine On Arrival

  • Unvaccinated travellers must be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days at home, regardless of symptoms, test results, or recovery from COVID-19.

  • Fully vaccinated travellers are exempt from the quarantine requirement.

  • Vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers arriving by air are no longer required to book or stay at a quarantine hotel.

  • Travellers who are not granted an exemption from home quarantine must demonstrate an adequate plan for quarantine or may be denied entry into Canada. • Unvaccinated children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by travellers who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption are exempt from quarantine, but must follow all testing requirements for pre-entry, arrival and Day-8 tests (unless under the age of 5). Unvaccinated youth aged 12 through 17 must follow all testing and quarantine requirements, whether or not they are accompanied by travellers who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption.

  • Travellers can use the questionnaire on the government website to assess their quarantine requirements. A list of exemptions can be found here.
