Endeavour Scholarship Foundation Announces the Recipients the Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship 2020 From The Kingdom Of Bahrain

The Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship will send four students and one educator from the Kingdom of Bahrain to Space Camp in the United States

BAHRAIN / December 13, 2020 – The Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship Foundation and Kallman Worldwide, in association with partners from the Kingdom of Bahrain – the Bahrain National Space Science Agency (NSSA), Ministry of Education and Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) – are pleased to announce the 2020 Al Worden Endeavour scholarship recipients.  The selected students demonstrated drive, determination and a desire to further their studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The scholarship, named for the late Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot Col. Al Worden, USAF-Ret. and the Endeavour spacecraft, delivers an all-expense paid, week-long, hands-on astronaut training experience at the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre’s renowned Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. (talkofthetownatlanta.com)   It aims to foster greater international understanding and cooperation, and inspire the next generation of innovators, explorers, and leaders in the global aerospace community.

As one of only 24 people to have flown to the Moon, Worden was a role model for career engineers. In the decades following his historic 1971 flight, he shared his passion for exploration and innovation with tens of thousands of followers.  In particular, he was an active advocate for the future engineering workforce, in all disciplines, in communities around the world.  Worden’s last visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain was in 2018 when he joined the Kallman team in the USA Partnership Pavilion at the Bahrain International Airshow and made a number of school visits.

“The Endeavour Scholarship’s program aims to unite young students and teachers from around the world, promoting global goodwill and partnership between nations.  It is a platform from which we can recognize and reward the achievements of tomorrow’s leaders and today’s teachers.” said Tom Kallman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Kallman Worldwide.  “I am excited to welcome ‘Mission 4: Bahrain’ to join 12 students and four educators from the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Chile at Space Camp in August 2021”.

The Award will be presented by His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr Mohamed Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain National Space Science Agency and The Hon. Ms Margared Nardi, The Chargé d’Affaires, US Embassy Bahrain, in the presence of former Apollo 16 astronaut, Brigadier General Charles ‘Charlie’ Duke, Ms Heidi Grant, Director, Defense Security Agency USA and Tom Kallman, President and CEO Kallman Worldwide.

Duke, an American former, U.S. Air Force (USAF) officer and test pilot was lunar module pilot of Apollo 16 in 1972, and became the tenth and youngest person to walk on the Moon.  He was present at the unveiling of the Endeavour Scholarship at the Paris Airshow in June 2019 and has since taken a keen interest in its subsequent development.  He is excited to be supporting The Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship Foundation and its industry partners to strengthen connections between nations and the global space community.

“It’s a great honor and privilege to join one of the elite group of men to have set foot on the Moon, supporting this initiative” said the US Chargé d’Affaires.  “The Endeavour Scholarship offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will guide and inspire Bahrain’s team members to further their education in the sciences.”

The Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, supported by sponsors, donors and partners around the world and backed by Kallman Worldwide’s USA Partnership Pavilions. The merit-based awards are determined by the foundation’s in-country partners.

The Bahraini students will join 16 other Endeavour Scholarship recipients from the UAE, Chile, Singapore and the United Kingdom all of whom will have earned their slots at Space Camp’s “International Week 2020” through locally-managed national competitions.
