Apollo 15 CMP Al Worden to Promote Cooperation in Exploration on First Trip to China

In conjunction with Airshow China 2018, U.S. astronaut/scientist/inventor plans to meet with China National Space Agency, Zhuhai civic leaders, students and industry.

Zhuhai, China and Waldwick, NJ, USA/October 23, 2018 — Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot, Col. Al Worden, USAF-Ret., will make his first visit to China next month as a goodwill ambassador for the U.S. aerospace industry, particularly American companies participating in Airshow China 2018 in Zhuhai, November 6-11.

Worden’s week-long schedule includes official appearances in Zhuhai on the opening days of the show, the country’s preeminent commercial aviation expo, plus meetings around the region with a cross-section of Chinese government, industry and community leaders. Notably, he will sit with senior executives of the China National Space Agency, Zhuhai city authorities, university students and industry professionals to promote multinational cooperation for space exploration.

The tour is being led, in coordination with show organizers, by Kallman Worldwide, Inc. the U.S. representative and organizer of the USA Partnership Pavilion at aerospace and defense events around the world for more than three decades, including Airshow China since 1996. Kallman has partnered with Worden and a coalition of industry supporters since 2015 to promote excellence in engineering “from classrooms to careers.”

The Apollo 15 mission flew in the summer of 1971, and is widely regarded as the most scientific manned flight to the lunar surface. Among Worden’s accomplishments on that flight, he performed the first deep space Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) — a “spacewalk” 196,000 miles from Earth.

In the decades following his historic mission, Col. Worden has applied his business acumen, technical talents and pioneering spirit to a wide range of interests in industry, academia and public service. In particular, he is an active, hands-on advocate for the current and future engineering workforce — in all disciplines — and the communities in which they live and work around the world.

Looking ahead to his first visit to the country, Worden said he sees clear parallels between the successes of Apollo and the progress of China’s aerospace industry.
